Professor David S. Cohen has signed an agreement with University of California Press to co-author a book about access to abortion.
Cohen will co-author “Obstacle Course: The Struggle to Get an Abortion in the United States” with Professor Carole Joffe of the University of California-San Francisco.
The book will provide an account of a network of barriers that confront women who seek an abortion, starting when they discover that they are pregnant and continuing through to the moment they undergo the procedure. It will also explore the lengths to which abortion providers must go to make reproductive services available.
An authority on gender and the law, Cohen is the co-author of “Living in the Crosshairs: the Untold Stories of Anti-Abortion Terrorism,” which was published by Oxford University Press in 2015. Co-written with ‘12 alumna and Women Against Abuse staff attorney Krysten Connon, it was named a Top 10 Feminist Book of 2015 by Ms. magazine.
Joffe is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Services at UCSF’s Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health.
The new book is scheduled for publication in 2019.
