Ernie Holtzheimer, John Lopez and Derek Bowks, all ’16, received this year’s Eve Biskind Klothen Law Student Awards from the Public Interest Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
Holtzheimer was recognized for logging more than 400 pro bono hours serving as a volunteer for Philly VIP, the City of Philadelphia Law Department and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights.
Lopez was recognized for his commitment as an intern with the Juvenile Defender Association of Philadelphia and for giving conference presentations on current issues in juvenile justice. He volunteered with the Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project.
Bowks served as vice president and regional representative of the Black Law Students Association and provided many hours of pro bono service through the Estate Planning Clinic, which serves clients in Mantua and Powelton Village who need wills, power of attorneys and advance medical directives.
