Professor Robert Field is among three professors selected as Erasmus Mundus Europubhealth Scholars in the European public health masters’ program.

Field, who holds joint appointments at the law school and the Drexel School of Public Health, directs the JD-Master of Public Health Program. 

Europubhealth is an integrated two-year program that provides public-health students with international experiences, public health training and interdisciplinary competencies in population health.  Students are trained within a consortium of prestigious European universities, including the University of Sheffield School of Health and Related Research, the French School of Public Health, and the University of Copenhagen Institute of Public Health, among others. 

Field has had a busy spring, following the recent publication of his Oxford University Press book, “Mother of Invention: How the Government Invented ‘Free-Market’ Health Care.”  On March 30, The New York Times published a letter to the editor in which Field underscored the massive role of federal programs in sustaining the nation’s health care system. 

On March 31, Field was interviewed about the last day of open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act on CFRA radio in Ottawa, Ont.  On March 29, he was a panelist at the Association of Health Care Journalists Annual Conference in Denver, Colo., where he discussed the impact of hospital mergers and consolidations on the public.  On March 28, he spoke about his book at Cleveland Marshall Law School.  On March 26, he discussed the book at the University of Pennsylvania Book Store.  On March 26, he was a panelist at Rutgers-Camden Law School, where he discussed the U.S. Supreme Court’s upcoming decision in the Hobby Lobby case that tests employers’ right to be exempted from mandates of the ACA on religious grounds.
