Professor Donald Tibbs will be a featured panelist for the American Bar Association's June 6 public hearing on recently enacted Stand Your Ground laws. Stand Your Ground laws made national headlines after the Trayvon Martin shooting, an incident which Tibbs has commented on extensively.
Tibbs will join a panel of speakers from law enforcement, government, state prosecutors' office, public and private criminal practice and academia to discuss the impact the laws, which justify the use of deadly force, have on the integrity of the criminal justice system and civil liberties.
Tibbs, an expert on criminal law and the overlapping issues of race, law and civil rights, is the author of “From Black Power to Prison Power: The Making of Jones v. North Carolina Prisoners’ Labor Union,” published in 2012 by Palgrave MacMillan.
