3L Shelby Skeabeck won second place in the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers’ 2011 writing competition.
The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers, an organization designed to honor attorneys who have distinguished themselves in the field of workers' compensation law, recently announced its 2011 writing competition winners. In her second place winning paper, “Cue The Lights: A Call To The Supreme Court And Congress To Shed Light On The Confusing Law In The DBA/Longshore Act Circuit Split,” Skeabeck discusses how inconsistencies between the federal Defense Base Act and its predecessor, the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, have caused some federal circuit courts to deny appeals of oversea workers’ compensation claims on jurisdictional grounds.
Skeabeck's win was highlighted in The Workers’ Compensation Blog, a blog which analyzes trends and developments in workers’ compensation law throughout the U.S.
