Through his work with the law school’s Civil Litigation Field Clinic, 3L Matt Mossman helped secure a $22,000 settlement for an HIV-positive nursing assistant.
Mossman worked with the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania, a nonprofit, public- interest law firm, serving the legal needs of those affected by HIV/AIDS and their families. The AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania filed the suit on behalf of an HIV positive nursing assistant against defendant Pittsburgh-based Capital Healthcare Solutions for rescinding an employment offer to the plaintiff after learning of of his HIV status.
In addition to the $22,000 payout, Capital Healthcare Solutions agreed to not engage in discriminatory employment practices on the basis of disability, real or perceived; to provide mandatory employee training, and to develop internal policies and procedures to prevent future discrimination.
