The law school’s Diversity Committee celebrates its annual Diversity Awareness Week from Feb. 29 to March 9 by hosting a series of events and lectures.
PHILADELPHIA READS Book Drive

In the spirit of giving back to the community the Diversity Awareness Committee is having a book drive this week for PHILADELPHIA READS a wonderful organization that provides children’s books and school supplies to Philadelphia educators, who teach in public, charter and parochial schools, day care centers, after school programs and other educational sites. There is a high demand for picture books and board books that discuss tolerance, Black history, multiculturalism, LGBT issues, and civil rights.

Benjamin Jerner, managing shareholder of Jerner & Palmer, P.C. and author of the chapter, "The Transgendered Client" appearing in the book Representing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Clients in Pennsylvania, will speak on the legal issues facing transgendered individuals. Mr. Jerner has practiced law in Philadelphia for over 15 years. His practice concentrates on adoption, estate planning, probate, and legal issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered clients. Mr. Jerner has served on the boards of directors of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Committee on the Legal Rights of Lesbians and Gay Men, the Gay and Lesbian Lawyers of Philadelphia and the National LGBT Bar Association.
