The law school's chapter of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy has been named the Student Chapter of the Week by the Washington-based organization.

The chapter gained notice for maintaining a busy schedule of events, including a packed talk by Professor Barry Furrow explaining legislative federal health reforms. The group also co-sponsored an "Abortion Clinic Violence and Buffer Zone Legislation Panel" with school chapters of the National Lawyers Guild and Law Students for Reproductive Justice, and co-sponsored with the Drexel Health Law Society a lecture presented by Professor Robert Field, who has a joint appointment with the Drexel School of Public Health, concerning the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

"It's a privilege to work alongside students who are so energetic and so committed to the core, progressive values of the U.S. Constitution," said Professor Chapin Cimino, the faculty advisor to the school's chapter and a co-founder of the Philadelphia Lawyer Chapter.

President Michael Doneson noted that the chapter’s other events include a discussion of the Citizens United case and the heated political rhetoric that accompanied last month’s shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz.

Chapter Vice President Keith West said upcoming events such as a planned debate on the Second Amendment that will be co-sponsored by the law school chapter of the Federalist Society reflect the group’s focus on scheduling informational events.
