First-Year Exploratory Studies Transfer Option
If you’ve completed less than 26 semester credits and are looking to transfer to a new institution, but still aren’t sure what you want to major in, Drexel’s First-Year Exploratory Studies (FYES) is a great option for you. You can seamlessly transfer into FYES at Drexel to begin in winter (January start) or spring (early April start) terms and depending on your circumstances, possibly for fall (September start) term of the next academic year. Our academic advisors will work closely with you to ensure that your credits go toward completing a degree on time.
As a transfer student in FYES, you can take courses focused on academic and career exploration and join a community of students who share your experience. Whether you have multiple areas of interest and need direction narrowing your choices, or you know what field interests you, but don’t know what specific major is the best fit, FYES can help you forge a path forward.
Perhaps you want to be closer to home, or your current institution isn’t far enough away from home. Maybe your current school doesn’t feel like a cultural fit, or it doesn’t offer the academic options you were hoping to explore. You may be ready to re-start your academic career after taking time away to deal with challenges and changes. Or, you want to join Drexel for the co-op opportunities. No matter your situation, you know you want to transfer to Drexel, but still want to explore your academic options— and FYES is here to help you reach your goals.
Drexel operates on a 10-week quarter system as opposed to the traditional semester system, so it’s important to follow the application instructions and deadlines as outlined on the Transfer Student website:
Transfer Credit Evaluations
Our academic advisors can provide you with a preliminary transfer credit evaluation indicating the number of credits that may be accepted before you apply. A preliminary evaluation is not required but may help you in the decision-making process.
Once you've been accepted, Drexel may grant you credit for courses completed at a college or university that is either regionally accredited or a recognized candidate for accreditation according to the Association of Colleges and Schools/Commission on Higher Education.
Transfer credit is evaluated by a First-Year Exploratory Studies academic advisor. To receive transfer credit for courses completed at another university, the courses must be substantially equivalent to courses offered in the corresponding curriculum at Drexel and you must have completed the courses with a grade of C (C=2.0) or better.
Drexel's academic year operates on a quarterly basis while most schools are organized by semester — this will affect your transfer credits. For example, 26 semester credits equal approximately 39 quarter credits.
