First-Year Exploratory Classes
The First-Year Exploratory Studies (FYES) program includes a three-term course sequence on personal, academic and career exploration. This course sequence provides an opportunity for personal reflection and exposure to programs of study from across the University, as well as insight into career pathways.
In the majority of your classes, you will be with the general Drexel student population. However, you will be exclusively with other FYES students in the courses listed below.
UNIV G101: The Drexel Experience
This course is designed to guide students through the process of self-discovery, which aids students in developing academic and career goals. Students will engage in structured discussions and assignments to articulate core beliefs that help them make authentic academic, co-curricular and career choices. Additionally, students will learn about Drexel’s systems and how they relate to their success.
FYE 102: Academic Exploration and Planning
This course is designed to help students explore, discover and refine academic and career interests and goals. Through active involvement in this class, students will explore campus culture, Drexel’s academic offerings, the role of academics and interests outside of the classroom and the philosophies of a college education, its roles and its purposes. Students will also make progress towards establishing and refining academic and career goals.
FYE 103: Career Exploration and Planning
This course is designed to introduce students to career planning and work environments outside the classroom. Through active involvement in this class, students will begin assessing career paths as well as preparing for appropriate and constructive participation in workplace and community cultures. Students will examine published literature and learn from accomplished professionals to better understand the conventions, challenges and expectations of the working world.
