Summer Preparation

ITA – International Teaching Assistants Program

Drexel University sponsors a one-month preparation program for international incoming PhD students who have been awarded teaching assistantships. The Summer 2024 training will be conducted in a hybrid format. The first two weeks of the program will be conducted online in a blend of asynchronous and synchronous remote instruction. The final two weeks of the program will take place in person on Drexel's campus. Note that participants are required to join both the remote and in-person portions of the training.

Dates of the 2024 Program

Activity Date
Remote ITA Training Component August 12 - August 23, 2024
In-person ITA Training Component September 3 - September 13, 2024

The four-week program is a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare international teaching assistants (ITAs) for their responsibilities at Drexel University. The curriculum addresses language, appropriate pedagogy, and the culture of the North American university classroom through interactive lectures, workshops with campus departments, micro-teaching presentations, and panel discussions with students and experienced TAs. The program is taught by dynamic, experienced faculty who are experts in the field of ITA preparation.

If graduate departments would like to refer any of their incoming students to participate in the Graduate Preparation Program for International Teaching Assistants, contact Anne Politz and provide documentation of their teaching assistantship.
