Steven Korman Presidential Collection
Steven H. Korman Office of the President
The Steven H. Korman Collection of Presidential Letters & Memorabilia encompasses a wide range of American history with materials from the first 43 presidents. The collection includes presidential pardons, appointments and photographs as well as inauguration and impeachment tickets. All of these documents are complimented by pieces of memorabilia such as a fifty-cent paper bill from 1863, campaign buttons, commemorative ribbons, White House chocolates and a chess set with presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush.
Steven Korman’s interest in collecting these materials was piqued by conversations with his grandfather about the history of this nation. With the letters in his collection, Mr. Korman looks for pieces that show the human side of the figures we find in history books. Each letter tells what it is like to be president and with each presidency we see our nation change and feel it grow.
The Steven Korman Presidential Collection is a fitting and very welcome addition to Drexel’s growing collections in art and historical materials, and a reminder of Mr. Korman’s assessment that “history is right in front of us,” providing valuable context and insight into our own times.
