Drexel’s Maternal Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) was thrilled to volunteer with the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships on their monthly community dinner last month.

The Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships is Drexel University's community-based resource center. The center provides the Philadelphia neighborhoods of Mantua, Powelton Village, and Drexel communities with programs and services ranging from dance classes to financial wellness counseling to veterinary services for pets.

MCHSO members assisted with the packaging and distribution of over 100 healthy meals to community members. In line with the center’s focus on community health, each meal was individually packaged, and all volunteers took precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases by wearing masks and gloves and washing hands often.

MCHSO president Markolline Forkpa said, “It was my first time doing community service with peers at Drexel, and it was nice to volunteer with like-minded individuals for a good cause.”

The MCHSO looks forward to partnering with the Center for Neighborhood Partnerships again in the future to serve and strengthen families in our community.

This spring MCHSO also joined forces with Saving Mothers to collect donations of menstrual and post-partum hygiene products (tampons, maxi-pads, adult diapers, perineal ice packs, etc.). All products from the Hygiene Drive were donated to Grab-n-Flow, a free to the community, menstrual and post-partum product shed.
