Gilman Scholarship Recipient to Study Abroad in Germany
June 7, 2022
Alastornia (Toni) Swift, BS Sociology and Public Health ’24, was awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program to study at the University of Mannheim School of Social Sciences in Germany in fall 2022.
The prestigious Gilman Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, supports American undergraduate students pursuing study abroad and international internships. The program has successfully broadened U.S. participation in study abroad, while emphasizing countries and regions where fewer Americans traditionally study. Swift was one of the 13 recipients at Drexel.
Swift is looking forward to this exciting opportunity. “I'm most looking forward to experiencing education in another country. I can't wait to hear the views of professors in Germany, especially in the sociology courses I'll be taking,” said Swift. “It'll show me a new world of opportunities, and I'll see what else is available in the world.”
Swift is currently on the 4-year 1 co-op plan. She is a proud member of the Drexel Biddle Law Society and Dragons Run.
After completing her undergraduate studies, she hopes to attend law school specifically focusing on health law and policy.
“Learning now about environmental, occupational, and maternal health in Dornsife classes I've taken thus far opened my eyes to policy, regulations, and disparities within many existing policies,” Swift shares.
