Dr. C. Crawford Mechem is the 24-year EMS Medical Director for the Philadelphia Fire Department and the Philadelphia Regional EMS Medical Director. He is also a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he has been on the faculty for the past 29 years.

Dr. Mechem is a member of the Pennsylvania EMS Medical Advisory Committee, has been a reviewer for several EMS and critical care journals, has assisted with the development of curricula for the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission, and has spoken and published extensively on topics related to emergency medicine and EMS.

Since 2002, he has been a member of the EMS Eagles Global Alliance, a de-facto coalition of EMS medical directors from most of the largest US municipalities as well as cities in Europe, Australasia, and Asia. In addition to EMS, his areas of interest include emergency preparedness, disaster response, tactical medicine, and preparedness for and response to acts of terrorism.

Dr. Mechem received an MD in Emergency Medicine from the Jefferson Medical College.
