MCC Director of Operations, Dr. Craig Johnson joined the MCC team in 2008 as the transmission electron microscopy specialist. His research background includes time working on advanced transmission electron microscopes at a CNRS lab in Toulouse, France and Brookhaven National Lab. Craig received his PhD in Chemistry from Arizona State University, where he studied defect structures in geologically important minerals using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

Dr. Kate Vanderburgh joined the MCC team in 2021 to manage the scanning electron microscopy and sample preparation tools. Kate received her Ph.D. in Materials Science from Vanderbilt University and joined Drexel following a post-doctoral research appointment at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She has extensive experience in the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials for battery applications.

Dr. Dmitri Barbash joined the MCC team in 2012 to manage the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction instrumentation. Dmitri received his PhD from the University of New Mexico where he developed XPS and ToF-SIMS techniques for the study of pharmaceuticals. He also spent 6 years as a field-service engineer for Physical Electronics installing and servicing XPS and ToF-SIMS instrumentation across the country (including the XPS in the MCC).
