Fellowships, Grants & Awards for Chemistry Graduate Students EXTERNAL FELLOWSHIPS Below is a list of national fellowships. These fellowships are offered to extraordinary graduate students in the chemical sciences: NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program The GRFP recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The NSF GRFP offers 2,000 Fellowships each year. NIH Kirschstein-NRSA Predoctoral Fellowship National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship EPA STAR Graduate Fellowship Program The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Center for Environmental Research runs competitions for STAR grants, graduate and undergraduate fellowships, research contracts under the Small Business Innovative Research Program and other research assistance programs. The Hertz Foundation Provides unique financial and fellowship support to the nation's most remarkable PhD students in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics and engineering.
