Program

The Drexel University online Emergency Nurse Practitioner post-masters certificate is designed for family nurse practitioners who work in an emergency care setting or desire to make a change. Providing the high-quality education and procedural skills necessary to competently and confidently work as a nurse practitioner in the emergency setting, Drexel's rigorous online program will prepare you to perform the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed to be eligible for board certification as an emergency nurse practitioner.

Upon graduation, you will be able to:

• Sit for the AANPCP Emergency Nurse Practitioner Board Certification Exam
• Practice within a legal and ethical framework of healthcare delivery

Clinical Practice Requirements

In addition to the successful completion of the program credits, you will need to complete faculty-supervised clinical hours consistent with eligibility requirements to sit for the AANPCP Emergency Nurse Practitioner Board Certification Exam. The clinical practice settings include urgent care, emergency department, corrections, trauma/critical care, and ground/air transport.

Supervised clinical hours allow you to perform advanced physical assessment, critical thinking, diagnostic reasoning and management of care in collaboration with licensed physicians and APNs in accredited institutions. Pennsylvania RN licensure is required prior to the start of your clinical components. While this is not a requirement for admission, we recommend starting the process immediately after admission.

*The nurse practitioner programs in the Division of Graduate Nursing at Drexel University provide students the flexibility of finding and coordinating their own clinical site and preceptor. The Division of Graduate Nursing offers students resources to assist in this process. Accessibility to clinical sites and preceptors varies from state to state. Students may be required to travel to access clinical sites/preceptors and achieve the necessary clinical hours.

Admission Requirements

• Master of Science in Nursing from program fully accredited by National League of Nursing (NLN) and/or American Association Colleges of Nursing (AACN.) The accrediting body for NLN is ACEN and the accrediting body for the American Association Colleges of Nursing is CCNE.
• GPA of 3.0 or above
• Current, unrestricted United States RN license
• 2 years experience in ED, critical care, urgent care, trauma experience as an RN or APRN. ACLS, BLS, PALS required.
• National board certification and licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner

Curriculum

This program is organized into four 10-week quarters per year (as opposed to the traditional two-semester system) which means you can take more courses in a shorter time period. One semester credit is equivalent to 1.5 quarter credits.

Graduate students who utilize student loans (FAFSA) must maintain a minimum enrollment of 4.5 credits per term.
