Beach Cleanup with United by Blue
Thursday, July 21, 2022
4:00 PM-6:30 PM
As part of Plastic-free Philly, the Academy of Natural
Sciences of Drexel University is partnering with United by Blue (UBB) and
Tookany/Tacony-Frankfort (TTF) Watershed Partnership on local waterway cleanups
this year. Our goal is to remove a total of 50,000 pounds of trash from our
watersheds. Please join the movement to remove plastic litter in our waterways
and make clean water a priority. Children under age 18 can participate with a
parent or guardian’s approval. Sign up now.
The focus of the day will be cleaning up litter and debris from the shoreline of Philadelphia's own Delaware River. This could include the removal of items as large as tires and abandoned household furniture to as small as pesky microplastics and ever-abundant snack packaging; all cleaned up with the overarching goal of stopping it from leaching into or physically entering the watershed, which in this case, includes the Delaware River!
