The current healthcare landscape is made up of treatment silos, unstructured and fragmented data, and cost pressures, with payers increasingly demanding value. Even though each clinician the patient interacts with may have executed his or her craft with impeccable authority and skill, often times the patient becomes a shuttlecock, and probably a hassled, frustrated, and maybe bankrupt one at that.

In this talk, we will look at how our healthcare system dynamics are beginning to shift. Where patients used to rely on information from the doctor, patients are now relying on information from the Internet. We will also discuss how big-data and advanced analytics are shaping the healthcare industry, how wearables are playing a critical role, and how patients are becoming more empowered, thus resulting in a patient centricity that is forcing the industry dynamics to shift. This is forcing change with policy makers, and along with clinical innovation, we are headed towards individualized treatment plans and value demonstration. Real world evidence of this includes the collection of unstructured data from real patients in their everyday environment and understanding how a given treatment truly works without any limitation or boundaries of study design, thereby shaping the patient’s quality of life.

Biosketches:
Dalia El-Sherif, PhD, is Co-Founder and CEO of iTakeControl, located in Wayne, PA. With over 20 plus years of experience, Dr. El-Sherif's unique background blends entrepreneurship and management consulting in the pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare industries, delivering innovative solutions in research, operations, strategy, and technology.

Dr. El-Sherif was a top strategy/change consultant at PA Consulting and IBM, as well as a top performer at Shire. At PA and IBM, she successfully led over twenty strategic projects in over fourteen accounts. At Shire, Dr. El-Sherif led the Strategic Planning and Portfolio Management function for Shire’s Specialty Pharma division, where she delivered a Presidents Club award winning strategic 2020 roadmap. In her role as head of Strategic Planning and Portfolio Management Dalia drove the establishment of Shire’s Big Data and Advanced Analytics capability as well as established a roadmap for strategic and innovative development of mobile and gaming solutions. ​Dalia is also a Partner at Pyxa Solutions, LLC, which focuses on services that drive Cross-Functional R&D Excellence.

Gul Serbest, PhD, is Director Clinical of Development at iTakeControl, after having previously had the same postition at Incyte Corp. During her career in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Serbest has assumed various roles in clinical development with increasing responsibility at various pharma and biotech companies. Prior to her industrial career, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her doctoral degree from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems at Drexel University.

Dr. Serbest's PhD and postdoc research were both focused on neurotrauma, neuronal injuries, recovery and signaling pathways. She also earned an MS in information science at Drexel University, in which she mostly focused on -omic sciences and bioinformatics, as well as an MBA in pharmaceutical management at Temple University's Fox School of Business.
