Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management announces the hiring of Chef Richard Pepino, HOSP ‘02 as Executive Chef of the Academic Bistro. Pepino joins Drexel from the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College where he has served as a chef instructor since 2006.
In addition to his academic background, Chef Pepino brings experience in both the corporate and fine dining worlds. Previously, Chef Pepino was a corporate chef and food service director at Aramark Corporation. He began his professional career with Main Street Restaurant Group, working his way up to sous chef at Sonoma.
“We are so excited to welcome Rich to the Center for Hospitality and Sport Management. Over the past year, since our founding, we have taken on major culinary events including the Philly Chef Conference, private dinners for VIPs visiting campus, and events to thank the administrators, board members, partners, and co-op employers who make us great,” said Jonathan Deutsch, PhD, professor and founding director at the Center for Hospitality and Sport Management. “Rich adds depth to the roster to help us be both a high quality educational program and a great food and beverage operation. He will allow students not only to study with us but to gain valuable working and learning experience in a high end restaurant and catering operation."
The hiring of Chef Pepino will enable the Center to increase the number and level of fine dining events held throughout the year. Previously, Chef Pepino has taught courses in restaurant operations, charcuterie, vegetarian cuisine, pasta, preserving and picking.
“I can’t wait to be a part of the Drexel family once again,” said Pepino. “I look forward to returning to my alma mater and working with the next generation of leaders in the hospitality industry.
Chef Pepino received his bachelor of science in hospitality management from Drexel University in 2002. He will join the Center on August 4.
