EarthFest returned to Drexel University in full swing this year! Last Tuesday, April 19, in observance of Earth Week and in celebration of the University’s commitment to sustainability, Lancaster Walk and the Gateway Garden bloomed with student organizations, Drexel departments, and local businesses, all with a shared devotion to making the planet greener and healthier.

A tree-planting ceremony on Lancaster Walk and 34th Street kicked off the festivities. From there, community members walked the bustling path, dropping by the bountiful vendors. Attendees of EarthFest could munch on environmentally friendly snacks, pick up some themed swag, learn about the many sustainable initiatives and groups on and off campus, spin prize wheels, and even take a plant or two home.

“After two years of inactivity, EarthFest had a windy, chilly, but successful event,” said University Sustainability Officer Bo Solomon. “Fifty tables were set up for the event, the largest number ever. Giveaways were more sustainable, QR codes gave information instead of hand-outs, and a great turnout from both internal and external sustainable partners led to many of us seeing people in person for the first time in two years. Thanks to all who attended.”
