Undergraduate Students taking Graduate Courses

PURPOSE AND APPLICATION
This revised policy defines the number of credits and parameters for an undergraduate student seeking to enroll in graduate courses.

STATEMENT OF POLICY
Full time, academically qualified undergraduate students may take up to 9 credits of graduate coursework with departmental permission. The graduate coursework may be counted to fulfill undergraduate degree requirements with departmental permission. Graduate coursework taken that exceeds the minimum requirements for the bachelor’s degree may be used towards an advanced degree.
For students to maintain eligibility for undergraduate Federal/State financial aid programs (Pell Grant, PHEAA Grant, Subsidized Direct Student Loan, Unsubsidized Direct Student Loan, etc.), graduate credits taken must apply directly to the student’s undergraduate degree program. If they do not, then Federal/State aid eligibility could be reduced or eliminated.
The maximum limit of 9 graduate credit hours does not apply to students enrolled in Accelerated Degree programs. However, the above Federal/State financial aid requirements do apply to all undergraduate students who wish to maintain eligibility for Federal/State financial aid.
