Dear Students,

In a recent announcement, Provost Jensen shared exciting updates around Drexel’s new semester calendar, which will begin August 23, 2027. The new semester calendar is designed to provide greater flexibility and expanded experiential learning opportunities — through co-op, global and civic engagement, research, project-based learning, and more.

For those who are pursuing a co-op, you may have questions about how the transition from quarters to semesters in August 2027 will affect your co-op experience. We’ve prepared the following resources to help answer your questions and clarify what’s changing and what’s staying the same.

What’s Changing During the Transition

As part of the one-time transition from quarters to semesters, the summer 2027 quarter will be seven weeks instead of 10, which will also shorten two co-op cycles:

  • Spring/Summer 2026-2027 co-op: This cycle will be about a month shorter, concluding in August 2027, rather than September.
  • Fall Semester 2027-2028 co-op: This cycle will be about a month shorter, running from late August 2027 through early January 2028.

Following the calendar transition, co-op cycles will return to their standard 6-month duration. Fall co-ops will begin in July and go through the start of January, and spring co-ops will begin in January and go through the start of July. You’ll continue to have the opportunity to participate in multiple co-op cycles. The Co-op program remains central to our educational model, and we are committed to ensuring you have clear, timely information so you can plan confidently.

Thank you for your patience and engagement as we implement these changes designed to strengthen Drexel’s hallmark co-op experience and better support your learning, growth and career success.

Sincerely,

Ian Sladen
Senior Vice Provost for Career Development and Global Engagement
