Teaching and Learning Center

As Inaugural Director, Johanna Inman, EdD, launched Drexel’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) in 2019. She has since developed numerous workshops and professional development programs including the Drexel Institute for Inclusive and Equitable Teaching, Drexel Teaching Academy, New Dragons Faculty Learning Community, and the non-credit Certificate in College Teaching. The TLC has grown to support all schools and colleges at Drexel, serving an average of 600 individual instructors for over 1500 contacts yearly. Dr. Inman and her team collaborate with units across campus to inspire and promote evidence-based teaching at Drexel.

Inman has worked in the field of educational development since 2008. She has presented extensively at both regional and national conferences on teaching in higher education and is an active member of the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network. Inman’s recent publications highlight her professional work at Drexel. “Launching a Center for Teaching and Learning During a Global Pandemic,” which was published in To Improve the Academy, details strategies Inman used to build Drexel’s Teaching and Learning Center, while “Have we met? Assessing Links between Academic and Work Learning,” published in the WACE International Research Symposium on Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education, explores how teaching centers can bolster the integration of cooperative and experiential education at universities such as Drexel.

In addition to Inman’s contributions to educational development, she has 25 years of experience as a college instructor. She has taught a variety of courses including survey, studio and capstone courses in the visual arts, as well as writing-intensive courses, first-year seminars and graduate education courses. She previously acted as a managing director of an online certificate in college teaching at Temple University.

Prior to her focus on post-secondary educational development, Inman had a fifteen-year career as a visual artist. Her work was featured in numerous national and international exhibitions, as well as solo exhibitions in the Philadelphia region. Other career highlights include a collaborative video installation at Eastern State Penitentiary, a two-year fellowship with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, and a New Jersey Council on the Arts Individual Artist’s Grant.

Inman earned her MFA from Tyler School of Art and her EdD in Higher Education from Temple University.
