Rose Ann DiMaria-Ghalili, PhD, RN, FASPEN, FAAN, FGSA

As Interim Associate Vice Provost for Research & Innovation, Rose Ann DiMaria-Ghalili, PhD, RN, FASPEN, FAAN, FGSA is a liaison between faculty researchers and the various administrative, technical, and operational teams that focus on research administration and innovation, supporting faculty members in efficiently conducting research within the institution's framework.
Biography
Dr. Rose Ann DiMaria-Ghalili is a professor of nursing, renowned for her extensive research in geriatric nursing, nutrition, and health outcomes. Her continuously funded interdisciplinary program of research focuses on integrating nutrition and novel technologies to manage symptoms, improve health outcomes and enhance quality of life for older adults with acute (e.g., cardiac surgery) and chronic (e.g., heart failure, chronic wounds, dementia, cancer) conditions across the continuum of care. Her research extends to addressing health disparities and improving care for vulnerable populations. Dr. DiMaria-Ghalili has been involved in projects such as the "Disrupting Disparities in Pennsylvania" white paper, developed in partnership with AARP-PA, which explores geographic, racial, and ethnic disparities in healthcare access and outcomes.
In her leadership roles, Dr. DiMaria-Ghalili has demonstrated exceptional ability to foster interprofessional collaboration and drive strategic initiatives. As the Senior Associate Dean for Research at Drexel's College of Nursing and Health Professions, she oversees the development of research programs and initiatives, the interdisciplinary council of CNHP PhD programs and promotion for tenure and non-tenure track faculty. Dr. DiMaria-Ghalili's leadership extends beyond the university, as she actively participates in national and international committees, contributing to the advancement of nursing and health education and research.
Dr. DiMaria-Ghalili is also a dedicated educator, committed to mentoring the next generation of nursing and health professionals and researchers. Her innovative teaching methods and dedication to student success have earned her numerous awards, including the Dr. Gloria F. Donnelly Excellence in Mentoring Award. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and the Gerontological Society of America. Her work has been honored with numerous awards, including the Stanley J. Dudrick Research Scholar Award and the Rhoads Research Lectureship. DiMaria-Ghalili and co-PI Christian Sell were recently awarded an NIH grant to train undergraduate students in aging research.
DiMaria-Ghalili obtained her BSN and MSN in nursing from Hunter College, City University of New York and a PhD in Research and Theory Development in Nursing Science from New York University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing’s Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence and obtained a certificate of leadership and management from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Prior to joining the faculty at Drexel University in 2009, DiMaria-Ghalili was a tenured associate professor at West Virginia University School of Nursing where she received the Faculty Award for Excellence, Innovative Teaching Award and Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award. In her early career she practiced at Jacobi Medical Center of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation as a surgical nurse caring for critically ill adults with trauma and burn injuries and coordinated an interdisciplinary nutrition support team as a nutrition support clinical nurse specialist.
