Drexel’s Day of Mindfulness: Cultivating Meaning, Purpose and Joy in Our Community

Mindfulness and meditation have become buzzwords in academia and even in corporate enviorments. Here at Drexel University, we’ve stayed ahead of the curve. For nearly 6 years, the Healthier U initiative from Drexel University Human Resources has offered weekly guided meditation sessions for faculty, students and professional staff members through the staff-led Drexel Meditation Group (DMG), which meets every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.

The DMG also offers quarterly lunchtime workshops for faculty and professional staff featuring mindfulness meditation teachers from a wide range of traditions, including Tibetan Buddhism, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Shambhala Buddhism and Japanese Soto Zen.

But what exactly is mindfulness actually good for? And why has mindfulness become such a celebrated component of emotional wellness and work-life balance? 

We hope that you will join us on April 18 as we explore the powerful potential of mindfulness to help us cultivate meaning, purpose and joy in our own lives and in our Drexel community. Drexel Human Resources, in partnership with the Office of Faculty Affairs and Student Life, is pleased to offer a special day of mindfulness workshops, led by author, lecturer and mindfulness expert Michael Carroll. Carroll is the author of several influential books on bringing mindfulness to the workplace, including “Awake at Work” and “The Mindful Leader.”

On Drexel’s Day of Mindfulness, he will hold three sessions:

  • “Mindful Leadership in Higher Education: Promoting Health and Well-Being in a Chaotic World”
  • “Facing Challenges With Confidence: How Mindfulness Can Cultivate Health and Wellbeing in Everyday Life” (which will be followed by a book signing and meet-and-greet session)
  • “Rediscovering Your Natural Reislience During a Busy 10-week Term”

You can attend one or multiple of these sessions, which are open to the entire Drexel community. We would like to welcome faculty, students and professional staff. Staff and faculty members are asked to register in Career Pathway. Students are welcome as walk-ins.
