A team of students from Drexel's College of Engineering, led by Alexander J. Moseson, PhD, an assistant teaching professor in the College and director of the Sustainable Engineering and Entrepreneurship for Development (SEED) Lab are among the latest recipients of a Grand Challenges Explorations grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Grand Challenge Explorations initiative, which funds innovative global health and development research, will help the team continue its work to create transformative farming tools for female smallhold farmers in Thailand.
Drexel and Delaware County Community College Establish Drexel@DCCC

A new innovative agreement between Delaware County Community College and Drexel University will establish Drexel@DCCC, a program that will allow students from the College to earn a degree from Drexel without ever leaving the College’s campus. Drexel President John A. Fry and College President Jerry Parker signed the agreement on Nov. 22 during a ceremony at Delaware County Community College’s Main Campus.

Drexel’s men’s basketball team will take the court at Madison Square Garden over the holiday to compete against some of the top teams in the nation at the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament Season Tip-Off. The Dragons will face Arizona on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and will play either Duke or Alabama on Nov. 29. Both games will be aired on the ESPN family of networks.

The dream of Drexel associate professor Frank Lee, PhD, that came to fruition in the form of a 29-story video game — Pong — played on the north facade of Brandywine Realty Tusts’s Cira Centre is now a world record. Guinness World Records officially recognized the event, which was held on April 19 and 24 as part of Philly Tech Week, as the “largest architectural videogame display.”
Consumers Order a Less Unhealthy Meal When the Menu Has Nutritional Labeling

An evaluation team led by the Drexel University School of Public Health has published a new study demonstrating that customers of full-service restaurants use nutritional labeling on menus to make healthier food choices. The customers who reported they used labels purchased 400 fewer calories (representing a relative difference of 20 percent), 370 milligrams less sodium and 10 grams less saturated fat than the overall average.

Drexel's men's soccer team used an early goal and a sterling defensive performance to bring home its first Colonial Athletic Association title with a 1-0 victory over William & Mary at Vidas Field. Freshman defender Jameson Detweiler's first-half goal proved to be the difference in the tightly contested match.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia CEO Steven M. Altschuler, Drexel President John A. Fry and Hebrew University of Jerusalem President Menahem Ben-Sasson signed a research agreement today as part of Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter’s trade mission to Israel. The research partnership is designed to focus on pediatric translational research and to develop a collaborative platform for advancing pediatric medicine from the lab to the bedside.

From its gumdrop shingles to its lollipop lampposts, a gingerbread house created by three Drexel University studentsis among the frosted versions of historic Fairmount Park sites created by local chefs for the Third Annual Gingerbread House Display. The gingerbread models will be on display in The Rotunda at The Shops at Liberty Place (1625 Chestnut St.) from Nov. 4 – 15. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and press event will take place Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m.

Only three weeks remain for visitors to see an exhibition of contemporary art by top graduates from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), China’s premier art academy, at Drexel University. The exhibition, hosted by the University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, will be on display at the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery in the URBN Center Annex (3401 Filbert St.) through Friday, Nov. 22.
