Get Involved During the Martin Luther King Jr. Week of Service and Reflection at Drexel
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service falls on Jan. 18, 2021 and will be the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates Dr. King’s legacy. Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been known as a direct service day on, not a day off, and is a call to action for Americans to commit themselves to giving back to their communities.
In 2020, our nation saw even more of the injustice that Dr. King was struggling with and spoke out against. This year, the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement will be honoring Dr. King’s legacy with a Week of Service and Reflection which will be observed from Monday, Jan. 18 through Friday, Jan. 22. The Lindy Center will be offering a mix of virtual and in-person opportunities to the larger Drexel community and hope that Dragons will join in celebration and reflection of Dr. King’s legacy and scholarship. In such an unprecedented time, the hope is to bring the Drexel community together to forge a new way forward; one that allows us to look to our past as inspiration and hope.
The Lindy Center will be hosting a few events throughout the week including:
- Beloved Community: an event in collaboration with the Dornsife Center join to connect with your West Philadelphia neighbors and reflect on Dr. King’s concept of the “Beloved Community.” Attendees will be given short readings to prepare for the event and, during the hour-long program, reflect on the readings and consider what King's philosophy can teach us about our local relationships.
