The Humanities’ Decline Makes Us Morally Obtuse

Paula Marantz Cohen, PhD, dean of the Pennoni Honor College and distinguished teaching professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, wrote an op-ed that was published in The Wall Street Journal on Sept. 21 about the assumption these days that people are monolithic—either completely good or completely bad. The best way to repudiate that assumption, according to Cohen, is to study the humanities, which illuminate human life in all its complexity.
