Assistant Professor of Information Science

Huh-Yoo studies and designs people’s use of technology to support health and wellness — from personal fitness devices and voice-activated assistants to social media and online forums. She is also interested the ethical and privacy implications of users sharing information about themselves through technology.

Huh-Yoo has conducted research to analyze the quality of health information that emerges in online communities and how different communities of users can better seek information and interact with technology. She is currently developing of a voice-activated technology that uses psychotherapy techniques to promote healthy eating habits and improve mental health. In developing these technologies that might capture sensitive personal information, Huh-Yoo studies how university institutional research boards and professional associations can develop ways to honor the privacy expectations of individuals using digital technology. Because of her extensive work in this area, she was appointed to the Human Research Committee of the American Psychology Association.
