Women's Basketball to Face Texas in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament
The Drexel women's basketball team will face the University of Texas in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Dragons will play Friday at 3 p.m. Eastern Time in a game that can be seen live on ESPNU.
The Dragons have put together an unforgettable stretch of basketball that has put them in the NCAA Championships for the second time in the last four years. Head Coach Amy Mallon and her team have won seven straight games, including four in four days as they cut down the nets in Washington, D.C. The Dragons won three of those games by two points or less before they took down Stony Brook, 68-60. Drexel will head to Austin with a 19-14 overall record.
Drexel will be the 16-seed in the Portland Region of the tournament. The Dragons will play the Longhorns, the one-seed in the region, at the Moody Center in Austin. The Longhorns won the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Championship earlier this week, defeating Iowa State, 70-53. The victory over the Cyclones gave the Longhorns (30-4) their 30th win of the year.
