As the 2023–2024 women’s college basketball season began anew for the Drexel Dragons, the team took time to honor an important person in its recent past.

Keishana Washington, who graduated in 2023 as the second-highest scorer in Drexel basketball history, was honored on Nov. 8 as her jersey was retired to the rafters of the Daskalakis Athletic Center. She high-fived her teammates and hoisted the jersey to the rafters herself before the team opened the season with a game against Norfolk State University.

Washington played for the team from 2018–2023 and wore #1 on her back as she played her way to 2,363 points over her career, the most of all time for a Canadian player in NCAA history. She racked up awards and honors throughout her tenure as a Dragon, including Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) MVP and CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 seasons, respectively. She also spent three weeks as the leading scorer in the country in December 2022 and finished the season as third in the country with 27.7 points per game.

After her stellar season, she signed a training camp contract with WNBA team Minnesota Lynx and will start her professional career in Poland this winter.

Washington’s retired jersey is the seventh such honor in Drexel history, and Washington is the third woman and women’s basketball athlete to receive the honor alongside #32 Barbara Yost and #44 Gabriela Marginean.
