With the start of the new year comes time for performance reviews, completing compliance programs and reminders about security updates and wellness events. For faculty and staff adjusting to the busy season, it’s important to keep up with deadlines and know what’s going on at the University.
Here’s what was heard around campus last month:
Complete Your Compliance Programs
As part of the performance review process, all faculty and professional staff are required to complete annual compliance programs. All programs must be completed by Oct. 9, 2019.
To access your annual Conflict of Interest Report:
- Log in to DrexelOne.
- Under the Employee tab select Conflict of Interest Disclosure.
- Select Start an Annual COI Report (please note this may differ for some adjunct faculty and new professional staff – review these frequently asked questions for details).
- The Conflict of Interest Policy Certification is part of the Conflict of Interest Disclosure process.
To access additional compliance programs:
- Log in to DrexelOne.
- Under the Employee tab select Career Pathway.
- Scroll down the Career Pathway welcome page and select Your Transcript.
- The Compliance 2019–2020 course bundle will appear on the active page in your transcript; click on it to access the compliance courses.
- Select Launch to the right of each course title to begin.

High Deductible Health Plan / Health Savings Account Re-Branding Education
Oct. 16, 12–1 p.m.
In-person and online — Earn 15 Wellness Points
Attend this workshop to learn more about the Consumer Directed Health Plan (CDHP) medical insurance option, formerly known as the High Deductible Health Plan. The CDHP can be coupled with a Health Savings Account, allowing you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified medical expenses. Basics of Social Security
Oct. 24, 12–1 p.m.
In-person and online — Earn 15 Wellness Points
Attend this workshop to learn more about the basics of your Social Security benefits. We will help you understand the considerations and timing for claiming Social Security benefits. Please register for this event in Career Pathway, accessed via DrexelOne.
Weekly Meditation — Earn Wellness Points
The Drexel Meditation Group meets every Thursday from 12:30–1 p.m., in the James E. Marks Intercultural Center, Room 017, offering short meditation sessions followed by discussion. This is a great opportunity to sit quietly and learn how to better manage your stress and more deeply engage your work and your life. Learn more on the Human Resources website.

Mini-massages, open to all faculty and professional staff, are available at the University City, Center City, and Queen Lane campuses and at the Academy of Natural Sciences. Check out the events calendar for the next session near you. No registration necessary. Just stop by!

Respecting Religious Observances
Embodying a culturally and spiritually diverse community, Drexel University recognizes that on the occasion of important or solemn religious days, certain of its members will observe practices that preclude them from attending to their regular duties whether as faculty members, professional staff members or students. On the occasion of such days, it is equally important for all who do not share in these same practices to accommodate their colleagues and peers. Drexel University supports an environment that respects the religious observances of others and is committed to making every reasonable effort to accommodate the religious observances.
The religious observances calendar, developed by the Drexel Interfaith Council, provides a non-exhaustive list of globally recognized religious observances. Information on requesting and providing religious accommodations at Drexel is available on the Office of Equality and Diversity’s website.
Dragon Drive: Support Local Charities
Drexel’s annual Dragon Drive takes place during the month of October. During this campaign we have the opportunity to come together to raise funds for worthwhile charities, helping to lift up communities throughout the region that need our support.
From Oct. 1–31, please consider supporting one of the several participating organizations by making a tax-deductible donation to the 2019 Dragon Drive. Many payment options are accepted, including payroll deduction. Information on how to donate and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the Drexel HR website.
Security Updates and Reminders
Annual Security Report, Student Trip Reporting
Drexel University's Department of Public Safety, in compliance with The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and The College and University Security Act of 1988, has released its 2019 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. A copy of the 2019 annual report is available at drexel.edu/cleryreport [PDF], or you may request a printed copy by calling Public Safety at 215.895.1550. A five-year archive of these reports is available on the Public Safety website
Pursuant to the Clery Act, Drexel is required to disclose annually certain reported crime statistics that occur during University sponsored/arranged domestic and international student trips. Drexel community members who are administratively responsible for these trips are expected to report this trip information to the Department of Public Safety for compliance via the Report a Student Trip Form at drexel.edu/publicsafety/forms/student-trip/.

Drexel Public Safety would like to remind all faculty, professional staff, and students on the Center City Campus of the following numbers to call in the event of any emergency or safety/security issue: 215.895.2222 or 911
We advise you to save 215.895.2222 (“Drexel Public Safety”) in your mobile phone contacts and delete any old emergency numbers you may have had for the Center City Campus. Please remove and/or ignore any signs or stickers in your work areas advising you to call a different number.
This is also the emergency number that should be used on the University City and Queen Lane campuses.

Diversity & Inclusion Spotlight: Drexel Campus Dining and Chestnut Street Caterers
Drexel Campus Dining and Chestnut Street Caterers, operated by Drexel’s food service partner Aramark, are aligned with the University’s commitment to providing employment opportunities for local West Philadelphia residents. In August, Aramark held a hiring event at the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships, resulting in 47 on-site, preliminary job offers. Of the approximately 120 attendees at the job fair, 52.1 percent were from seven Philadelphia zip codes supported by the University’s economic inclusion strategy, which includes the West Philadelphia Promise Zone.
“It was a powerful day full of joy,” said Soneyet Muhammad, director of workforce and economic inclusion in the Office of University and Community Partnerships. “I saw young community members dancing with each other to celebrate their first job and seniors relieved that they found their last position before retirement. There is much work to do to bring economic vitality to the region and we are fortunate that our partner, Aramark, took this step with us in Drexel’s civic commitment journey.”
The Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships, located at 3509 Spring Garden St., is a resource center open to the public. Located in the Carriage House at the Dornsife Center, the Beachell Family Learning Center offers two computer labs staffed by Drexel personnel that house the University’s community-facing programs in adult education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship. These KEYSPOT computer labs have received over 29,000 visits since opening in 2014. The online resources they offer were integral to the success of the Aramark hiring event.
