In November, A Healthier U kicked off its first adult coloring book and crafting session for Drexel faculty and professional staff. The first official "Crafternoon" enjoyed a surprising turnout of 45 participants.
“Coloring is gaining esteem as the new ‘meditation,’” said Monica Fauble, program coordinator for the Office Of University Wellness and co-organizer of the Crafternoon event. “A state of immersion and freedom develops, and colorers report that a feeling of ease and relaxation emerges as they color and craft.
At the December session, Jason Poole, illustrator of the adult coloring book “Dynasty of Dinosaurs” and Dinosaur Hall coordinator at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, was the special guest speaker.
“Coloring was a favorite childhood pastime, so when the invitation came for coloring with my fellow Drexel employees, I was delighted,” said Trish Mahon, executive assistant in the Office of the President. “The fact that the health benefits go beyond relaxation was an added bonus.”
For more information about the event, email mfauble@drexel.edu. The next session will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Until then, find yourself or your colleagues in these photos from the December session.
