NBC News Correspondent Bob Dotson has travelled over four million miles tracking down stories for the American public. On April 9, the award-winning reporter’s travels will bring him to Philadelphia as the honored guest at the 2013 Kal and Lucille Rudman Media Seminar. Dotson, who is the creator of the Today Show series’ “The American Story with Bob Dotson,” will share stories about the incredible people he has met along his journey.
Dotson will discuss the techniques for effective storytelling on television that he has gleaned from years of bringing those stories into American homes through his show. He will also preview his new book American Story, which highlights some of his favorite tales about the people who make this country great.
The annual event, at which Dotson will be introduced by “NBC 10 News” anchor Renee Chenault-Fattah, takes place at 7 p.m. at Community College of Philadelphia. It is designed to help students, educators and professionals explore issues in the news and meet people who shape contemporary media.
In a wide-ranging interview about his adventures in television news, Dotson will share his experiences about some of the most fascinating people he’s met as a reporter, including stories about a boss who came out of retirement to start a new company for his former employees who couldn’t find work, a truck driver who taught microsurgery and a man who has 465 profitable patents - second only to Thomas Edison
Dotson has crisscrossed the country for 40 years, spinning yarns and winning more than 100 awards for his work, including eight Emmys. Dotson, who is considered one of the finest writers in broadcasting, is the first to admit that he has the best job in television.
“An Evening with Bob Dotson” is sponsored by the Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies at the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design of Drexel University, by TUTV-Temple University Television/the Kal and Lucille Rudman Media Production Center at Temple University and CCPTV, the Educational Channel of Community College of Philadelphia.
The event will be held in Community College of Philadelphia’s Bonnell Building located on North 17th street between Spring Garden and Callowhill Streets. There will be a book signing and reception following the conversation with Bob Dotson. The event is free and open to the public.
