Researchers at Drexel and three other universities have begun designing a prosthetic arm that amputees can control directly with their brains and that will allow them to feel what they touch. A new study by researchers at Drexel University’s School of Public Health suggests that abuse of prescription painkillers may be an important gateway to the use of injected drugs such as heroin, among people with a history of using both types of drugs. The results support a need for efforts to prevent misuse of prescription drugs, particularly during adolescence.

For eleven high school students who aspire to work in behavioral health care, a week-long “Summer Academy” run by Drexel’s Department of Behavioral Health Counseling, was a preview of their future careers. In addition to training and hands-on practice with counseling skills, the week’s activities gave students the opportunity to meet guest speakers, attend workshops, participate in panel discussions, observe an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and go on field trips to mental health and addiction treatment agencies.

During the visit, Fry will meet with several Israeli university presidents and faculty, government officials, and other leaders. It is an important opportunity for cultural and educational exchange and collaboration with existing Drexel partners and for fostering new relationships in the region.
