What/Who: Civil rights activist and co-founder of the Black Panther Party Bobby Seale will speak at Drexel University in celebration of Black History Month. Known as the Black Panthers, the organization’s members were college students who created tangible grass roots community programs.Seale was one of the original “Chicago Eight” defendants charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot, in the wake of the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for contempt because of his outbursts, and eventually a judge ordered Seale severed from the case, hence the “Chicago Seven.”Defining themselves as “revolutionary humanists” Seale and his wife Leslie in their talks bring the 60s protest movement era full circle showing how times have changed and how to reach for the future.When: Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 6:30 p.m.Where: Mitchell Auditorium, Bossone Research Enterprise Center NOTE: Seale is available for one-on-one interviews one hour prior to lecture.
