About Biomedical Engineering STEM Summer Camp
The BIOMED Summer Academy is a 1-week STEM program at Drexel University in Philadelphia that provides high school students with insight into one of STEM's most exciting fields, Biomedical Engineering. For July 2022, there are three sessions available for the weeks of July 11-15, 2022, July 18-22, 2022 and July 25-29, 2022.
Participants will be introduced to laboratory and core research skills through interactive, hands-on learning activities. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the booming biomedical industry through site visits, seminars, and presentations from industry experts.
"For me, I noticed how deep research can take you. How complex these things are, and how we just barely scratched the surface of them to create a design. Because the more I looked stuff up the more things I found, and those things led to more. And, it was just a lot and so I learned to take that research, and boil it down to just the one thing I was looking for and the one thing I was trying to find. "
"I learned that there are so many unanswered questions or unanswered problems that you thought that there would be a previous fix to, but it turns out there wasn't. We chose our project to make a biodegradable because we thought, you know, it was a no-brainer to help the environment. But, there are always things out there that need to be bettered and fixed."
High School Student Eligibility
This STEM summer program in biomedical engineering is available to rising high school juniors and seniors in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Admission to the program is competitive. Students must have taken one year of biology and have some interest in math, engineering, or health and life sciences. Preference is given to students with outstanding GPAs and teacher recommendations.
