In August 2010, John Anderson Fry became the 14th president of Drexel University. Since his arrival, President Fry has led Drexel in the redevelopment and expansion of its campus with Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building (PISB), Chestnut Square, Gerri C. LeBow Hall, and the Raymond G. Perelman Plaza. (2010)

The College of Arts and Sciences’ new Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building (PISB) officially opened with a dedication ceremony held on September 20, 2011. The 150,000 square-foot building, named in honor of Drexel’s 12th president, Constantine N. Papadakis, boasts of 39 research and teaching laboratories, a 80-foot tall living biowall, and an open atrium with a central spiral staircase. (2011)

 

Drexel Moments

On October 5, 2011, Matheson Hall was demolished. During the demolition ceremony of Matheson Hall, the time capsule originally placed under Mathesons’ plaque in 1965 was opened for the first time. In its place is a new 12-story, 177,300 square foot business building. Gerri C. LeBow Hall opened with a dedication ceremony held on October 3, 2013. (2011)

In May 2011, the Academy of Natural Sciences President and CEO George W. Gephart, Jr. and Drexel University President John A. Fry announced the new partnership between Drexel and the Academy of Natural Sciences. Regarding the historic affiliation, President Fry shared that “The Academy and Drexel are complementary learning institutions with a combined 300 years of contributions to our understanding of the world around us.” (2011)

On April 6, 2013, the Drexel women’s basketball team made history, winning the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Hollie Mershon, BS '14 was named Tournament MVP. Drexel women’s basketball team became the first women’s basketball team to win a Division I championship in Philadelphia. (2013) 

Drexel Moments

In 2013, the Drexel men's and women's crew teams combined to win the overall points trophy at the Dad Vail Regatta. Drexel repeated this victory both in 2014 and 2015. During Drexel crew’s first year in 1958, the team placed fourth in the Dad Vail Regatta finals. (2013)
