Why did you decide to become a member of the Alumni Board of Governors?
I decided to become a member of the Alumni Board of Governors because being on the Board will hopefully put me in spaces to be able to advocate for the needs of the alumni community. I see my role as a liaison between the University and alumni, specifically our younger alumni. I want to be a diverse face in the crowd and help ensure that alumni can see themselves in this group that is meant to represent them.

I've gained a lot from my education at Drexel, and my experiences here have been very memorable. As someone who came from an international background, Drexel was my home and my community.

When I was younger, I was an avid hiker and fisher. I used to spend every weekend in the mountains with my dad and our hiking group back in my hometown in China. I love the mountains.

My very first experience flying was when I flew, alone, from Cleveland to Philadelphia on an Allegheny Airlines late night flight in a propeller driven “airliner” to enroll at Drexel University some 52 years ago.

Why did you decide to become a member of the Alumni Board of Governors?
Drexel has done a lot for me and has given me a great launching pad for a successful career. My five-year undergraduate experience at Drexel was instrumental in providing life and learning skills that would prove to be critical to an enduring success. My post graduate experience at Drexel provided that extra career achievement boost. I am proud to be a Drexel University graduate. I owe a debt of gratitude for my Drexel experience. I want to give back to Drexel and its students and continue to associate with other achievement minded leaders.

During my time leading the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, I spearheaded the launch of CIVC101, Drexel’s introductory civic engagement course for first-year students. To date, over 30,000 students have taken the 1-credit course.

Why did you decide to become a member of the Alumni Board of Governors?
I love any path that keeps me connected to the University and on campus. Both my BS and MS are from Drexel, I adjunct within the Construction Management Department and am an active contractor on campus. Drexel and Philadelphia created the path of entrepreneurship that I am on today. Giving back to the current students and connecting alumni is a great way to give back.

Being a woman in technology is sometimes a lonely journey and I'm passionate about helping other women in technology in sales and/or leadership roles. I truly believe that Drexel was a big reason for my professional success, and I want to support graduating Dragons to learn the lessons I’ve learned along the way so they can see success even more quickly!

What’s something interesting about you that people would be surprised to know? I enjoy the outdoors and most sports. Highlights include hiking trails with our golden retriever and making time to play golf and go skiing with family and friends as much as possible. Something that I miss dearly from the college days is that we used to hang out at the Drexel gym most afternoons and play a few hours of pick-up basketball games, with a few Drexel professors playing too. It was great camaraderie.

I have volunteered on committees of several non-profit organizations over the years and have helped organize and manage events including fundraising. I would like to leverage my past experiences to develop new events with a focus on re-engaging Drexel alumni.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Alpha Omega Epsilon. I also loved volunteering for open houses and Admitted Students Days and even was the student speaker for Drexel's Accepted Students Day for the College of Engineering in 2015.
What's the first word that comes to mind when you think about Drexel?

What’s something interesting about you that people would be surprised to know?
I love the performing arts space. I took part in plays and musicals since I was eight years old. Most notably, I was in the play “The King and I” at Plays & Players Theatre which is a local theatre in downtown Philadelphia. “The Last Five Years” is my favorite musical.

Why did you decide to become a member of the Alumni Board of Governors?
I decided to become a member of the Alumni Board of Governors to help shape the alumni experience for Drexel Dragons around the world! As I look back fondly at my time at Drexel, I see how my connections with alumni had a great impact while I was still a student. I now want to pay it forward by giving back to the current students. I look forward to using this role to elevate the stories of my fellow alumni about how they are continuing the “Drexel Difference” as active alumni as well as fostering new connections with alumni I have not met yet.

I have been a part of the Drexel community for 13 years as a student and staff member. I really want to give back and ensure current and future students continue to have the unique Drexel experience - one that centers on experiential learning, diversity, and community engagement. I also wanted to be able to represent the perspectives of students and alumni from both of my academic programs.

What’s something interesting about you that people would be surprised to know?
When my wife and I moved to upper Bucks County, PA, we became more in touch with the outdoors. I took up the enjoyable hobby of making maple syrup in the winters, collecting sap from maple trees and turning it into liquid gold. Not only is it a fun and rewarding process, but who can resist the delightful aroma of maple syrup wafting through the house?

With a wealth of experience in building digital startup companies and a strong entrepreneurial drive, I am excited to join the Alumni Board of Governors. My expertise can help the board effectively engage and connect with alumni worldwide. Witnessing the transformative impact the university has on its students fuels my motivation. As an adjunct professor in entrepreneurship and innovation, I have observed the institution shaping students' futures. I am committed to actively contributing to the university's ongoing success by providing resources, education, and support. I am humbled and enthusiastic about the opportunity to drive the university's continued growth.

The Board is a platform to engage alumni and students as well as build meaningful relationships with fellow BOG members, staff, professors and the entire Drexel community. It’s a great opportunity to network and give back!
