Presentations for Department of Justice’s Honors Program, Summer Law Internship Program (SLIP), and Tax Division

You're invited to join the Division for a virtual presentation on the Department of Justice’s Honors Program and Summer Law Internship Program (SLIP) positions.

You're invited to join the Division for a virtual presentation on the Department of Justice’s Honors Program and Summer Law Internship Program  (SLIP) positions.

During the presentation, DOJ members will discuss tips for applying to Honors Program and SLIP positions and the Tax Division generally—which is one of the best-kept secrets in the Department. For example, the Tax Division was the second highest ranked  organization within the Department of Justice in the 2023 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government Rankings. Our advice is likely to be useful in applying to other DOJ components through the Honors Program, too.

Tax courses or experience are NOT required! The Tax Division, primarily located in Washington, D.C., represents the United States in criminal and civil litigation around the country. Tax Division attorneys are immediately assigned cases and given hands-on litigation opportunities that are virtually unmatched in other private or public sector roles. We strive to build a collegial working environment that reflects the diversity of America, and we welcome applications from candidates of every background.

We will present four sessions in August, before the SLIP and Honors Program applications are due on Tuesday, September 3. All law students are welcome to attend any of these presentations (and the presentations will all cover the same content). The information for joining each presentation is below.

Information for Joining the Tax Division’s Presentations

The presentation will take place on DOJ’s virtual WebEx platform. You can also join by phone by calling 415-527-5035 and entering the meeting passcode. No need to RSVP, just show up.

  • Wednesday, August 21, 12:30-1:30 pm EDT via Webex

We are happy to provide you with early notice of the Spring 2025 schedule! We hope this will help you to identify any conflicts that may affect how you move forward with the Fall while there is still time to add and drop.

The full schedule with credits, notes, and descriptions is available on the University’s Term Master Schedule. You can view the visual grid version of the schedule, as well as the Spring exam schedule, on DragonNet.

Please do review all notes. For instance, there are several courses that meet for less time than their credits would suggest (e.g., 4-credit Business Organizations meeting about 3 hours per week) because that time is added to the out-of-class work in the form of problem sets, simulations, and other assignments. In these cases, you will see a note under Section Comments that says “Substantial asynchronous work required.”

Course registration for Spring 2025 will take place in October, and we will send more detailed information about dates and processes closer to that time.

Every summer, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Law School Public Interest Professionals Committee hosts weekly brown bag lunchtime programs, where practitioners discuss different aspects of public interest practice. The programs will be held every Thursday during the lunch hour, beginning on May 30 and continuing through August 1 (except for July 4), at the Bar Association offices at 11th and Market Streets in Philadelphia. The program will kick off with attorneys from different organizations discussing opportunities for collaboration within the Philadelphia public interest community. Other discussions will focus on different types of practice (e.g. direct service/community lawyering, criminal law, immigration, and policy/impact litigation), how to afford to practice public interest law, and more.

2024 CSO At-Grad Survey: Why This is Important

Thanks in advance to all graduating JD students for completing the At-Grad Employment Survey on Symplicity prior to receiving your graduation tickets.

Thanks in advance to all graduating JD students for completing the At-Grad Employment Survey on Symplicity prior to receiving your graduation tickets.

The American Bar Association requires that every ABA-accredited law school supply employment data 10 months following graduation. That employment data is audited by the ABA and made publicly available (in aggregate) on the law school home page for any consumer of legal education to see. The CSO collects this information at graduation from every 3L and it is used for several important purposes:

  1. It gives us a snapshot of the percentage of students who are employed before graduation, a data point that helps everyone understand what to expect based on the historical record.
  2. The at-graduation data is the baseline for us to conduct our mandatory 10-month post-graduate employment information that is audited by the ABA and made publicly available.
  3. If you’re still seeking employment, the At Grad Employment Survey enables the CSO to offer our services to help you. This includes email list-servs with job postings, advising meetings, interview prep and more. The CSO works with graduates after graduation until you have found a job. If you don’t have a job yet, we’re here to help. Please use our services!
  4. If you have a job lined up, congratulations! Information about your job is the baseline for our 10-month employment data.
  5. We will circle back with 2024 graduates in January 2025 to substantiate your employment data. Some data can be substantiated from a law firm website or LinkedIn in which case we won’t bother you. But you may get an email, a phone call or text from someone in the CSO simply asking to confirm information. When the time comes, will you please be kind and answer us? The data collection is very important, and we want to get it right for the sake of the reputation of the law school and our ABA accreditation.
  6. All data is reported to the ABA confidentially and by anonymous number – your information will not be sold or otherwise made public.

Thank you in advance, Class of 2024, and we look forward to cheering you on at Graduation at the Kimmel Center!

Loyola University Chicago School of Law is hosting the 2024 Patent Law Interview Program on Thursday and Friday, July 18-19. This nationwide interview program targets patent law employers and rising 2L and 3L students. The 2024 Patent Law Interview Program Interviews will be held VIRTUALLY.

Last year roughly 130 employers, 190 law schools, and nearly 1,000 law students from across the country participated in the program. The program is entirely pre-selected, which means that students submit application materials to apply to interviews with the employers they are interested in, and employers then review their materials and select the students they wish to interview at the program. Last year, approximately half of the participating students were selected for interviews.

Students with undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering or a technical science should consider registering for the program. You do not need to be patent bar eligible to register, although the vast majority of employers participating in the program are seeking patent bar eligible students.

For more information on the program, please refer to the Loyola Patent Program website at: https://www.luc.edu/law/currentstudents/careerservices/patentprogram/.

Online student registration for this year’s Patent Law Interview Program is open and the deadline to register is Wednesday, March 27. The Career Strategies Office will handle registration and payment for Drexel Kline School of Law students. Please contact Amanda Young or Jen Moore for a registration form. (Please note: there is a non-refundable $50 student registration fee. CSO will cover the registration fee but in return expects students to have a sincere interest in attending and submitting applications.)

Once you have registered, the Loyola program staff will communicate with you directly via email to the address that you entered when registering for the program. Loyola uses PIPER (12Twenty), a system similar but separate from Symplicity, as their career fair platform.

Please direct any questions about the program to the CSO’s Patent Program Liaisons, Amanda Young ay466@drexel.edu or Jen Moore jdm368@drexel.edu or stop by the CSO.
