    The Fellowship is open to all second-year students who have an interest and seek to explore a career in local government through a hands-on experience in the Solicitor’s Office during summer 2022.

    The Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law is pleased to announce the 15th Annual Carl “Tobey” Oxholm Summer Fellowship with the Philadelphia City Solicitor’s Office. The Fellowship is open to all second-year students who have an interest and seek to explore a career in local government through a hands-on experience in the Solicitor’s Office during summer 2022. The winner of this fellowship prize of $10,000 will be paid in May 2022.

    All interested 2L students should submit the following application materials via Symplicity Job Posting by noon on Monday, November 1, 2021. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered. Selected students will be invited to interview in November. Fellowship recipient will be selected in early December.

    1. Résumé
    2. A personal statement (two pages maximum)
      • highlighting your past experience and/or interest in municipal government
      • explaining why a summer in the Solicitor’s Office “fits” who you are and what you think you might want to do after graduation
      • identifying two to three (maximum) practice group units within the Solicitor’s Office where you would prefer to work (ranking your preference and explaining your choices)
    3. A personal reference from one of your professors at the law school, providing insight into what you would bring to the internship. (These can be emailed directly to jdm368@drexel.edu by November 1.)

    Possibly? Well, you should be! 98% of all cases settle before trial. The Kline ADR Team focuses on pre-trial skills that all lawyers need to perfect: arbitration, negotiation, client counseling, and mediation.

    The ADR Team will hold tryouts for 2Ls and 3Ls who are interested trying out for:

    • The ABA Client Counseling Competition
      • Application

      • Additional information about the Representation in Mediation Competition (including spring competition dates) can be found here.

    Students interested in trying out for either of the Spring 2022 competitions may email Professor Kraybill, ADR Team faculty advisor (nck26@drexel.edu) and Francesca Spinelli, ADR Team president (fs436@drexel.edu).

    Client Counseling

    • Tryouts for the Client Counseling Competition will be held September 14th and 15th 2021 via zoom. 
    • During the tryout, each participant will interview a client about the client’s specific legal problem. The client will be played by a current executive board member of the ADR team, with judges observing. 
    • The interview session which will last approximately fifteen (15) minutes.
    • The problem will be released after the deadline for interested participants. 
    • Please direct any questions about the Client Counseling Competition to Francesca Spinelli.

    Mediation

    • Tryouts for the Mediation Competition will be held September 22nd and 23rd 2021 via zoom.
    • Each participant will act as counsel for their client while negotiating with opposing counsel regarding an issue. Opposing counsel will be played by a current executive board member of the ADR team, with judges observing the mediation.
    • Each tryout will last approximately 25 minutes.
    • The problem is short and simple and does not require any outside research. The problem will be released after the deadline for interested participants. 
    • Please direct any questions about the Mediation Competition to Francesca Spinelli.

    The Admissions office is seeking current Kline Law students with excellent communication, organization, and time management skills to assist us. This position will sit at the welcome desk in the admissions suite to answer the phone, greet guests, and assist with projects like event preparation and bulk mailings.

    Interested candidates must have the ability to work at least 15 hours per week in our office between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm, Monday through Friday.

    Pay is $12 per hour.
