Workshop Descriptions
This workshop will address language and behaviors necessary for successful job interviews. Participants will learn what to do - and not do - to manage anxiety, act professional, and land the job!
This workshop will introduce what to do - and not do - to communicate successfully during academic presentations. Participants will learn how to manage pronunciation and vocabulary challenges, appropriate body language and gestures, and strategies for using presentation software.
This workshop will present common exam question types from various subjects and introduce strategies for effective responses. Participants will learn how to interpret questions and communicate their knowledge.
This workshop will address methods for communicating successfully with other members of the university community, including American students. Participants will learn when and how to make small talk, how to distinguish “friendliness” from “friendship”, and general American communication etiquette.
This workshop will demonstrate how to effectively prepare for, understand, and review information presented in academic lectures. Participants will learn multiple note-taking methods and strategies for dealing with unfamiliar vocabulary and topics.
This workshop will demonstrate how to effectively communicate with professors through both e-mail and face-to-face communication. Participants will learn how to write appropriate e-mails and what to expect during office hour conversations.
This workshop will present various strategies for successful comprehension of academic reading materials (including textbooks and academic journal articles). Participants will learn how to manage their reading time, take effective notes, and deal with unfamiliar vocabulary.
This workshop will explain some of the "strangest" aspects of American university culture (for international students). Participants will learn about the role of the teachers and students, how to participate in classroom discussions and activities, and expected classroom behaviors.
