Teaching the Whole Student
In partnership with the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, TLC's new series, Teaching the Whole Student, focuses on important dimensions of learning (social, emotional, somatic, etc.) that tend get overlooked in higher education's fast-paced learning environments. These elements of teaching are important to all courses, especially those using community-based learning, engaged learning, or other pedagogies that rely more heavily on student participation.
2023-2024
More and more educators are using mindfulness to promote focus, help students find value in learning, and build community. Ahaji Schreffler demonstrates how mindfulness techniques can increase student (and instructor!) wellbeing across courses and disciplines.
The traditional "brains-on-sticks" model of education neglects a key dimension of human learning: embodied cognition. Valerie Ifill offers examples of movement-based techniques to invigorate the classroom and deepen student learning.

Developing Antiracist Pedagogies
In this monthly discussion co-sponsored by the Office for Institutional Equity and Inclusive Culture, we will examine the intersection of race, identity, teaching, and learning. Each month participants will be provided with a short article, chapter, or excerpt to read. Together, through semi-structured and small group discussion, participants will explore concepts proposed in the readings and reflect on ways they may be implemented within their teaching. These materials will address topics such as how social identities impact classroom dynamics, how to practice culturally relevant pedagogies, how to create inclusive classroom environments, and how to promote honest and productive discussion.
2022-2023
