Climate Case Competitions
What Is a Case Competition?
The Climate & Sustainability Working Group and the Center for Interdisciplinary Inquiry host climate-themed case competitions for Drexel students who are looking for ways to get engaged with climate problem solving.
In a case competition, participating teams are given a challenge to address in a short period of time, from one weekend to two weeks depending on the nature of the challenge. Teams must combine their expertise, creativity, and analytical skills, working together across disciplinary boundaries.
Because climate change is a complex issue with implications for every facet of our society, these competitions are interdisciplinary, challenging participants to craft competition deliverables that reach beyond professional silos. They offer students opportunities for creative climate problem solving, networking, and learning from peers in different degree programs. The competitions also offer cash prizes for the top entries.
Case competitions provide students an opportunity to develop and enhance their analytical abilities, critical thinking, oral presentation, and communication skills. In addition, case competitions encourage networking between students as well as with leaders in the Drexel community.
Feedback From Case Competition Participants
“It is always nice to be part of an interdisciplinary group because your major tends to become such a big part of your identity and the people you interact with. So that when you meet people that share the same interests like climate activism but are from different backgrounds, it is a special connection and leads to thought-provoking conversations.”

“I'm very glad to work with people who enjoy and are good at visual design. I have the philosophy that rather than trying to work on my weaknesses, I should hone my strengths and find other people to team up with who can cover my weaknesses for me. Working on teams with diverse skillsets is always a joy because I feel like I get to do what I do best, and still feel confident that other aspects of the project won't fall to the wayside.”
