Welcoming Maureen Tang as Faculty Senate Chair

This message was shared with faculty and professional staff members on September 28, 2026.

Dear Colleagues,

I'm writing to formally welcome Maureen Tang, PhD, to her role as Chair of the Faculty Senate, which was effective on September 1.

Dr. Tang joined Drexel's faculty in 2014 and is an Associate Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, with an affiliate faculty appointment in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics and Materials Science Engineering. Her research in electrochemistry and battery science has earned recognition including an NSF CAREER Award and Drexel's Outstanding Early-Career Research Award, and she has mentored dozens of graduate and undergraduate students in her lab.

Dr. Tang has served the Faculty Senate in multiple capacities over the past several years, beginning as an alternate senator in 2024-25 and advancing to a full senator in 2025-26. During that time, she represented the Senate on the EXP 1001 Implementation Task Force as part of Academic Transformation and also served on the Academic Unit Integration/Alignment workstream. Her firsthand experience with this university-wide initiative and deep understanding of the work underway through Academic Transformation will be especially valuable as we move through its final year.

Beyond her Faculty Senate service, Dr. Tang has worked closely with the Provost's Office in other leadership capacities. As an ELATES Fellow in 2023-24, she collaborated with faculty, Enrollment Management and Student Success, and Campus Safety to develop a flowchart guide that helps faculty navigate student mental health concerns. The guide has become an important resource for Drexel's Teaching and Learning Center and has since been adopted by universities across the country.

I look forward to working with Dr. Tang and continuing the strong partnership between the Provost's Office and Faculty Senate.

Please join me in welcoming her to the role.

Sincerely,

Paul E. Jensen, PhD
Executive Vice President
Nina Henderson Provost
