Students Share Moments to Remember in Annual Study Abroad Photo Contest

Study Abroad Photo Contest First Place

The first-place winning photo for the 2019 Study Abroad Photo Contest was submitted by Erin Maguire from her experience in New Zealand.

On-campus experiences often define college careers. Student group events, sports games and academically-defining moments all help formulate what a student’s experience means to them.

For those students who choose to study abroad, these defining moments may also take place off-campus as they use the opportunity to study internationally as a means to also explore different cultures and have life-changing experiences. And these moments can often be encapsulated in an amazing photograph — like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

What do the winning entries of the Drexel Office of Global Engagement and Education Abroad’s  annual photo contest say to you? See below for the five winning photos which received the most likes, comments and shares on the Drexel Study Abroad Facebook page by Feb. 22.

This year’s contest received 199 eligible photos from 72 students. Photos from 36 countries and six continents were represented, with the most-photographed countries including Italy (35), United Kingdom (22), Japan (16), Germany (12) and France (10). First through third-place winners received Amazon gift cards ranging from $50 to $100, with the fourth and fifth-place runners up receiving swag bags.

“The photo contest is a great way for students to reflect on their time abroad and showcase their incredible talent,” said Lisa Shen, study abroad advisor and communications manager for the Office of Global Engagement and Education Abroad. “In addition, the photos highlight the variety of locations and opportunities available to Drexel students, whether it’s a full term abroad or a shorter intensive course abroad.”
