Drexel Crew is set to compete in the most renowned rowing event of the year, the 2012 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, on Friday, May 11 through May 12 held on the home waters of the Schuylkill River. The regatta will feature over 3,500 student-athletes from up to 120 colleges and universities across North America and Canada. Visit the Drexel Branded-Tents
All are welcomed to come out and cheer on the Dragons at the Drexel branded-tents stationed near the Grand Stands on Friday, May 11 and May 12. Picnic-style food and refreshments will be available free of charge on both days. Updated schedules and programs will also be available at the Drexel Tents along with a merchandise stand that will include all the latest Drexel Crew gear. The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta takes place on the Schuylkill River five miles northwest of Center City and two miles north of boathouse row. The start line is north of the Kelly Drive-Hunting Park Avenue intersection and ends at the Grand Stand finish above the Columbia Avenue Bridge. The 2,000-meter long race course has six lanes and is the same length as an Olympic course. Home of Drexel Rowing TeamsDrexel Crew rows out of the historic Bachelors Barge Club located on the Schuylkill River Boathouse Row. Founded in 1853, the Bachelors Barge Club reigns today as the oldest continuously operated rowing club in the United States. Drexel Crew will take the water out of a stately brick boathouse constructed in 1893 on the original site, also known as #6, on historic Boat House Row on Kelly Drive. Where to Park on Race Day
Kelly Drive will be closed during the regatta days and suggest traveling through Fairmount Park from both the north and south. To access parking, follow directions to Kelly Drive and there will be signs posted to help guide vehicles to remote parking areas. Handicap parking will be available, but there will be limited number of parking spaces available to park near the Grand Stand area after passing through police barricades. Shuttle Services Provided by Aberdeen The Dad Vail Shuttle Buses will be marked "Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta" will be available to and from the race course free of charge. Please click here to view the shuttle schedules. Also, Septa Routes 32 and 38 will direct spectators to the race course and Rower's Village. Television Coverage for FinalsThe regatta will be aired on 6ABC/ESPN3.com for the final afternoon races. WPVI (6ABC) will also provide live-cut-ins at the top of every hour beginning at 1pm.
