American Campus Communities Extends Fall Term Rent Abatement to Second-Year Students

Following Drexel University’s decision to continue remote courses for undergraduate students and keep University housing closed in the fall term, affiliated housing partner American Campus Communities (ACC) has agreed to offer rent abatement to second-year Drexel students governed by the University’s on-campus housing requirement for the period of Sept. 21, 2020 through Dec. 12, 2020, with the lease remaining in effect for the period of December 2020 through September 2021.

Made in the spirit of being a good university partner, ACC’s decision allows Drexel to administer a consistent policy among all students required to live on campus or in University-affiliated housing. The University and ACC are sharing in the financial support of summer and fall rent abatements.

ACC provides housing for a number of Drexel students, including second-year students who choose to live in ACC properties as part of the University’s two-year residency requirement. ACC operates three residencies on Drexel’s campus: Chestnut Square, University Crossings, and The Summit at University City.

ACC communities will remain open through the fall term and will continue to provide essential services to residents. In addition, ACC is working on a case-by-case basis with residents experiencing hardships due to COVID-19.

The University will continue to update students and families throughout the fall via its Response to Coronavirus website as it plans a safe path to welcome the entire Drexel community back to campus.
